5 HTP, 100mg

What is 5-HTP?

5-HTP is a building block of serotonin, the “feel good” neurotransmitter that regulates our moods, sleep cycles, and even influences our response to pain. NatureWise 5-HTP includes vitamin B6 to aid in the conversion of 5-HTP to serotonin.  5-HTP is included in our weight management category of products. Our NatureWise 5-HTP, 120-count is a lower dose (100 mg) than our 5-HTP Plus+ (200 mg), for people who may have stomach sensitivities or who wish to take a lower dose of 5-HTP.

What is 5-HTP used for?

For years, 5-HTP has been a popular holistic alternative to pharmaceutical antidepressants that also work on serotonin levels. In addition to supporting mood, 5-HTP has also been found to have benefit in regulating sleep and in the management of chronic pain.*

NatureWise 5-HTP has natural mood-enhancing ingredients to promote well-being and stress reduction, and improve sleep. Early evidence suggests that supplementation with 5-HTP may promote weight loss by helping to reduce appetite and caloric intake.*

FDA Disclaimer About Health Claims

Please note that the following statement is required to accompany any health claim, such as “may promote weight loss by helping to reduce appetite and caloric intake.” It appears on all NatureWise labels and sales copy.

How does 5-HTP work?

5-HTP works in the brain and central nervous system by increasing the production of the chemical serotonin. Serotonin is one of the principal neurotransmitters associated with happiness and anti-depression. We have included vitamin B6 in our formula to aid in the conversion of 5-HTP to serotonin in the brain.

What are the ingredients?

  • 5-HTP (5-hydroxytryptophan) (100 mg) is an amino acid derived from the seeds of the Griffonia plant.
  • Vitamin B6 (5 mg) is a water-soluble vitamin that helps to catalyze 5-HTPs conversion to serotonin.

What kind of capsules are used?

NatureWise 5-HTP is encapsulated in vegetarian capsules.

Are there any side effects/tolerance issues with 5-HTP supplementation?

The most commonly reported side effect of 5-HTP supplementation is gastrointestinal upset. For most people, this tends to be mild and transient, and may only occur with higher doses of 5-HTP. To reduce potential stomach upset 5-HTP should be taken with meals and with a full glass of water.

What else do I need to know about NatureWise 5-HTP?

5-HTP is manufactured in the USA using non-GMO, vegan, and gluten-free ingredients. Each capsule contains 100 mg of 5-HTP and 5 mg of vitamin B6. Other ingredients include vegetable cellulose and organic rice bran extract. NatureWise 5-HTP does not have yeast, wheat, gluten, dairy, corn, soy, eggs, sugar, tree nuts, peanuts,, or shellfish.

Why is rice bran extract used in the formula?

At NatureWise we strive to produce the highest quality products on the market. The use of rice bran extract in our formula helps keep the highly concentrated extract from clumping together inside the capsule, reducing the “chalky” effect that you may experience with other products. Our rice bran extract is certified organic, gluten-free, has nutritious tocotrienol (a form of vitamin E), and is easy to digest.

There is a lot of misinformation about nutritional supplements -- so much so that many manufacturers do not list all ingredients in their labeling. We’re proud of the ingredients we use, and our products are formulated to consistently deliver the highest quality, purity, and potency.
